Carmen,

You & I are of the same mind. I happened across some of your work while seeking employment in the IC. I've really enjoyed the presentations & the few things I've read by you. My head works the same way. Am I correct that you are a Military Brat? I'm an Army Brat & there are a bunch of us on a website that you may want to check out if you are a MilBrat. There are 2 related sites, www.MILITARYBRATS.NET & www.MILITARYBRATLIFE.COM that you may like. I hope to see you there. Stay alert, be safe/healthy & have fun. Also, my wife works(ed) w/ Danny Kahneman at the Princeton Univ. Center for Health & Wellbeing so I'll have to buy "Thinking" too. Thanks for the referral.

Best regards, Don

I still rely on typical Protestant apologetics on the definition of the Mormon religion, (meaning it has specific differences that cannot be reconciled to neither Protestants nor Catholics.) However It should has no bearing on anyone's candicacy for office. Someone could be a follower of Santeria for all it should matter to the running of government. What matters is when one brings their personal doctrine into modifying policy.

Interesting. I often wonder about Mormons too. My husband and I became fans of the HBO Big Love http://www.hbo.com/big-love/index.html series initially because we were fascinated with the sister wives' relationships, but what stayed with me is the value Mormon's place in family connections even as they stretch across the globe. In pursuing genealogy as a hobby, I've taken advantage of Mormon church records and also volunteer to digitize them. They helped me locate my husband's grandfather's unmarked grave in Cleveland and trace back his ancestors in Slovakia. We went on a mission trip to Slovakia this summer with a group from our Lutheran church and came across a pair of obviously Mormon missionaries in the town square of Banska Bystrica. I approached them to thank them for their work. Their friendly, fresh-scrubbed faces and western-accented English reminded me of the many Utah national guards men I've met at work. Maybe we'll all be Mormon one day, baptized after death. This former catholic wouldn't mind being related.

I've just started reading "The Information Diet" by Clay Johnson which sounds like a good follow-on to Thinking, Fast and Slow (still on my waiting list). Clay talks about the parallels between obesity and information overload. I'm only through the first section comparing the analogy of junk food producers to media industry content farms. Part of thinking deficit you mention is understanding how much information we really need to make judgements and where is the best source of that information. I don't know yet if the Information Diet will help with that but it is also very readable. O'Reilly Media is also having a webcast with Clay Johnson on Jan 18. http://oreillynet.com/pub/e/2130

Can you show this as a matrix? I'm interested to see if any patterns emerge.

The names seem to fall into the following categories - intellectually challenged, normality-challenged, morally challenged, or just plain inconsistent. Mr Paul in particular seems to be fond of challenging the intellectual credentials of his opponents - does this betoken some intellectual insecurity on his own part?

(By the way, I always thought the most unintelligent thing Mr Gore ever did was to allow himself to be presented to the American electorate as the intelligent candidate, as if this was the most important reason for voting for him.)
